INTELLECTUAL ECONOMICS 2007, Number 1(3)

FROM THE EDITORIAL BOARD

The third issue of Intellectual Economics is devoted to the topic of application of a structural method in the economic and statistical analysis. Structuralism is one of the most productive methodologies of the XXth century, which substantially strengthened the metaeconomic achievements in the development of innovative researches on the financial investments as well as conceptual foundations of researches on competitiveness and social cohesion.

The interconnected questions of knowledge economy and e-government, which we intend to interpret systemically in the Intellectual Economics, are addressed in this issue by Croatian scientists Dr. Ž. Dobrovič, M. Tomičic and Dr. N. Vrček. They analyze the opportunities and priorities of wider application of the scorecard in the public sector. This problem is further addressed by Assoc. Prof. M. Išoraitė who also discusses the special aspects of the wider application of the scorecard in practice. Professors A. Žvirblis, I. Mačerinskienė and A. Buračas analyze the methods and modeling perspectives of potential evaluation of competitive enterprises using the structural approaches.

Dr. G. Mačys discusses the problems of cohesion of Lithuanian regions and their competitive development. Prof. A.V. Rutkauskas and V. Stasytytė analyze the stratification of securities' profitability as a background to evaluate investors' behaviour and their chances in the markets.

The interconnections between the economics and democracy are especially important for the competitive development of the intellectual resources. They are originally presented in the article of Dr. Dorien de Tombe (The Netherlands).

Prof. B. Melnikas devoted his article to the network-based concept of European economic integration which is meant to extend the innovation potential of the EU.

Prof. A Laurinavičius reveals the importance of trade marks for the development of international markets which is really important for the continuing expansion of intellectual property protection.

In general, this issue of the intellectual economic emphasizes some new conceptual aspects of integral application of structural approaches to the economic solutions.
