Development of economy of Lithuania as a transit country is directly related to transport system consisting of transport roads, infrastructure objects, technologies of types of transport and managerial structures.
Only developed freight transport system makes premises and provides conditions for not only satisfying requirements of the contemporary freight carriage market but also developing logistic services. Therefore, some new goals are set for the freight transport system- to integrate into the transport market of the European Union, to attract some new consumers of transport services and increase the volume of transit freight carriage this way.
The book reviews some separate processes of creation and development of types of transport in Lithuania, components of the freight transport system as well as transport system management issues, introducing transport infrastructure objects, carriage machinery and freight carriage organization by different kinds of transport, freight carriage tariff pricemaking under market and competition conditions.
The chapter “Freight transport system development outlooks” introduces development tendencies of separate branches of transport as provided by Long-term Transport Development Program by 2015 approved by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in 2005 the freight transport system development outlooks are directly related with further development of transport passages of international importance and Klaipėda Sea Port in.
The training book “Freight Transport System” is intended for persons studying subjects of transport and logistics, business management and international business organization.
